Posting: Addressing Accessibility SPC
One of the featured NAAB Student Performance Criteria (2009) in this studio is:
B.2. Accessibility: Ability to design sites, facilities, and systems to provide independent and integrated use by individuals with physical (including mobility), sensory, and cognitive disabilities.
We have been working towards meeting this criteria via Exercise 2.22 addressing the following:
a)accessible parking (minimum of 2)
b)accessible ramp/stair and hand-rail/guard-rail design
c)accessible bathroom design
d)door swing clearance
e)corridor width dimensions
Make sure that these efforts are evident in your final drawings
Plans: all plans must include International Symbol of Accessibility where facilities and elements to be identified as accessible; parking/bathrooms/ramps/curb-cuts/elevators etc. Show required clearance via light dash-lines (60" diameter turning circle, under counter clearance). Indicate elevations at all floor levels, major stair and ramp landings. Dimension the run for the ramps and width along with the major corridor widths to indicated the compliance.
