3.03 Light Drawings / Light Studies

Observe and record the phenomenal effect of your Light Receiving Device as “Light drawings” in various natural lighting conditions. Construct a shadow box to fit one-half of the Analytical Relief Plaster Cast on one end in order to observe the phenomenon under controlled conditions.
Mode of investigation:
a. Light Drawings. Graphite powder, natural charcoal or pastel on Starthmore 300 Series Charcoal Paper Pads (18”x24”) + kneaded eraser. Use, subtractive method (eraser drawings) via kneaded eraser to render the the effect of light through the apertures on plaster surfaces.

(2) Objective views in section / elevation perspectives, each on a single sheet. (6) Subjective views in vignettes focused on the intent and effect of the apertures, a pair on a single sheet. - A projected view from an occupant’s standpoint.
b. Light Studies via Digital Photographs. Set (1/2) of your cast on a location where you can obtain unobstructed daylight. Situate your Light Receiving Device as required and observe the changing light, shade and shadow in the interior of the device through different light conditions. Record the change by taking photos. Format and print on a 4” strip glossy photo-paper.
