Spatial Mapping Diagrams
Investigative Drawings = DIAGRAMS *(courtesy of Prof. Redfield - from DSGN1100SM13)
Your task is to analyze and synthesize the underlying ordering systems of your precedents in relation to the context through investigative drawings.
Begin the process by constructing a series of 2-dimensional diagrams (section/plan) analyzing the following basic components in your precedents.
a.axis / symmetry / balanced asymmetry
b.geometry / proportion
c.rhythm / repetition
d.repetitive vs unique (anomaly)
e.circulation
f.structure
g.center / periphery (edge)
h.figure / ground
i.landform
j.path/place
k.building fabric
Some components are more relevant to particular precedents than others. Some are more meaningfully in connection with each other. You ultimately task is to synthesize the components into one or two Parti diagrams describing the hierarchical relationships of the most important components as your interpretation of the design intent.
